Background
In response to the growing challenges small businesses face in managing tasks and fostering effective team collaboration, WorkHub app was the solution. The goal was to create a comprehensive solution that successfully overcomes their challenges.
WorkHub is one of the most challenging projects where I played a vital role in conducting UX research, conceptualizing and designing this intuitive app that optimizes task allocation and progress monitoring. It is a testament to my commitment to enhancing operational efficiency through innovative and user-centric solutions.✨
Problem & Solution
The challenge began with having numerous competitive apps already available aiming for the same solution, which is improving business management. Yet, lacking proper user research and understanding, almost everything fails.
Why exactly are other apps failing to solve the issue? Our goal is to answer this question and implement those strategies in this app.
Design Process & Challenges
I took the traditional UX design pathway to perform extensive research and create a strong base for creating this app.
User Interviews, surveys, user journey and information architecture (IA) and so on, all these steps helped me to clarify the user needs and create an exact & unique solution which other apps were failing.
The first problem was to address that most apps were too technical, i.e. complex to specifically target small business owners/startups with a number of employees (5-20). Thus, the users felt overwhelmed or anxious to take advantage of them. I created a solution by making a smooth user flow and IA to simplify their actions.
Secondly, while most of them felt issues with organizing and monitoring work progress, we addressed a solution to handle monitoring, management and measuring progress, all in one platform and most importantly, with very beginner-friendly interfaces.
Usability Test and Iterations
During usability testing, I identified and prioritized critical issues impacting user experience. Users found the process of adding a new project confusing, so I revised the positioning and layout for creating new projects, making it more intuitive.
Additionally, users needed an easier way to edit project details, leading me to streamline the process by taking them directly to the editing screen upon clicking a newly added project.
Lastly, users wanted fewer steps to access a team member's profile, so we enhanced navigation by allowing direct access.
These iterative changes, driven by user feedback, significantly improved the app's usability for small business owners.
Lessons Learnt
User-Centric Design: Prioritizing user needs results in higher satisfaction and usability.
Iterative Process: Continuous refinement based on feedback leads to a polished final product.
WorkHub is a testament to my thoughtful UX design in solving real-world business problems, providing small businesses with the right tool.
